Hello and thank you for visiting our website! I’d like to tell you a little about our experience with Olde English Bulldogs. It all started back in 2007 when my husband Aaron wanted a bulldog. We’ve seen the cute, wrinkly, bow legged, teddy bears on TV shows and skating down the boardwalk in our home town of San Diego. They are so adorable, how could you not fall in love?
Since I am a research junkie I went on a week long binge of reading every website, book and magazine about English Bulldogs. From that research I learned that the “traditional” english bull dog is racked with so many genetic problems and their life span is less than 8 years. After my research I did not feel comfortable buying a dog for my husband that could potentially break our hearts by being plagued with skin, eye, joint, breathing problems, etc. and then would die on us in less than 8 years. I wanted a dog that would be our buddy, that could go for hikes with us, hang out on the lake and play with our future children for many, many years to come. We now live in Austin, TX and from everything that I read about English Bulldogs they wouldn’t be able to handle our hot summers.
BUT then I found Olde English Bulldogges….
Once I decided we were going to go with an Old English Bulldog, I did an equal amount of research and I found a wonderful OEB breeder located near us. We went and talked with her and met her dogs several times before we finally decided to go ahead and buy our first OEB. Our first baby girl is named Lucy and from the minute we brought her home she has been such an amazing joy in our lives. Her personality is so lovable and she has been incredibly easy to train and is always trying to please us. We feel so lucky to have Lucy in our lives.
Below is a little general information that I found out during my research about Olde English Bulldogs:
The ideal Olde English Bulldogge is a loyal, courageous dog of medium size with a large powerful head and stout muscular body. OEBs are athletic and most importantly of very good health, males are free breeders and females are free whelpers. No artificial insemination or cesarean sections, which is the only way “English Bulldogs” can reproduce now.
The OEB is devoid of all breathing issues and is capable of enjoying outdoor activity without concern except in extreme heat or cold. The temperament is very stable and trustworthy making them a loyal companion, capable protector and the ultimate family member. Olde English bulldogges are very trainable and thrive on pleasing their owners. Their lifespan is between 10 and 14 years.
